Colour Calm Folk Art Bumble Bee Painting Kit and Tutorial
I have designed this tutorial with the aim of encouraging creativity and relaxation through painting. The colours I have used are yellow, red, ultramarine blue, sap green, magenta and Payne’s grey. I have used the idea of symmetry to create a design using a bumble bee and a floral wreath. This is a suggestion and guide, however it is not prescriptive and you should feel free to develop your painting in your own way, depending on how confident you feel. It is a good idea to test out your paint on spare paper first, to test the strength and the viscosity. Too little water and it won’t flow. To much water and the colours will be pale and they might bleed together. Remember to let each stage dry before adding another, otherwise you might drag wet paint with your hand. I notice that when I paint in this way I also turn the paper to suit the area I am working in. Have fun and enjoy!

Use a small pointed brush and a jar of water.

Paint the yellow stripes on the body, the flowers at the top and one at the bottom.

Add green stems and leaves on the wings.

Paint the red heart and red flowers.

Add blue petals and blue edging to the upper wings using small semi circles.

Add magenta edging to the lower wings.

Paint pink daisy petals by gently stamping your brush.

Add yellow daisy petals by stamping.

Paint green foliage leaves and swirls around the bee's body.

Paint rose stems green, then red roses on the bee's body. Use fine red lines on the large yellow flowers at the top and add daisy centres.

Add final details, swirls and flowers wherever you have space left.
